The extreme heat in the Apple and Lucerne Valleys in Southern California this weekend as temperatures could reach or go over 110 degrees.
A brush fire broke out in Lucerne Valley Saturday afternoon along the rocky hills area. The blaze, dubbed the “Lucerne Fire”, was first reported about 3:05pm on July 6, 2024 north of Highway 18 and High Road.
With the afternoon breeze and the hot temps help push the fire up into the hills of Lucerne and quickly went to 50 acres.
At 5pm the fire burned about 200 acres in the mountain area.
There were no reports of any injuries, structure damage or evacuation orders.
Officials initially reported that the fire blown up to more than 800 acres by Sunday morning, but with update mapping they reduced the fire to 419 acres after aerial mapping, according to CAL FIRE.
Firefighters had built up containment lines around 90% of the flames Sunday late morning officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
