About 4:14pm July 12, 2024, as county firefighters from Station 8 in Lucerne Valley left the station, a large column of smoke could be seen from the station.

Upon arrival, crews found a well-involved three-story structure to the rear of a single-story residential home next to the feed store. The fire was impinging on the residence and had extended into nearby fencing, brush, vehicles, and large trees. Firefighters were initially challenged by the lack of water supply available in the local water system and had to rely on the use of a water tender and shuttling operation from subsequent engines as they arrived.

High temperatures and wind were factors, causing small spots of vegetation to burn directly north of Highway 18 across from the involved building. These spots were quickly contained with minimal spread. Crews were successful in keeping the fire to the original building of origin, with no damage sustained to the residential home on the property.

San Bernardino County Fire responded with three engines, one battalion chief, and one fire investigator. The Apple Valley Fire District and CalFire assisted with one engine.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. All occupants of the home on the property, as well as pets, were safely evacuated without injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
