YERMO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A solo-vehicle rollover crash on northbound Interstate 15 in the town of Yermo early Thursday morning left a 24-year-old Las Vegas woman dead, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 12:42am Thursday August 1, 2024. The location of the crash was on northbound Interstate 15 near the Ghost Town Road exit. California Highway Patrol, and CAL FIRE responded to the traffic crash involving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV.

The 24-year-old Las Vegas woman was driving the Chevrolet Trailblazer at an unknown speed just prior to the crash, CHP Officer Shane Hernandez said. A 22-year-old Riverside woman was riding as a passenger.

“For reasons still under investigation,” the Chevy veered toward the right shoulder, he said. It continued until it hit a chain link fence. ” Thereafter, the vehicle began overturn multiple times, where it ultimately came to rest near a hotel. After the vehicle came to rest, it became engulfed in flames,” Hernandez said.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled, he said. Paramedics ultimately pronounced her dead at the scene.

The flames were so intense a good Samaritan who tried to help was unable to get near the burning SUV as fireworks were going off inside the vehicle, according to CHP Traffic Log stated.

The passenger managed to get out of the vehicle before it caught fire and went to a nearby gas station to seek help, officials said. She suffered apparently minor injuries and declined to be taken to a hospital to be check out, officials said.

The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
