SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Beginning January 1, 2025 new California driving laws take effect.

Assembly Bill 413 “Daylighting Law” aims to enhance pedestrian safety at crosswalks. This makes it illegal to park a vehicle within 20 feet of any unmarked or marked crosswalk or 15 feet of any crosswalk where a curb extension is present. Each city to decide motorists have a 2-month grace period before violators may receive parking tickets for non-compliance. Why Daylighting Matters:

More than 40 other states have similar laws in place.

Pedestrian deaths in California are 25% higher than the national average, according to data from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Assembly Bill 3085, Street takeover spectators and their vehicles. “Anybody now that purposely or intentionally blocks a roadway, either with their vehicle or with their persons, or create a blockade preventing law enforcement from entering these active takeovers; those individuals are going to be held liable as well. All vehicles can be seized for up to 30 days.

Assembly Bill 2186 allows authorities to go after those participating in illegal activity in off-street spaces (like a private/public parking lot). Now they can actually do something like you were on any public roadway.

Assembly Bill 1100 makes it illegal for a job posting to require applicants to have a valid driver’s license.

Assembly Bill 905 eliminates the “locked door loophole,” which required prosecutors to prove car doors were locked when a burglary took place. This gives prosecutors more flexibility to address auto burglary and thefts.
