NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi-truck driver was killed and a passenger airlifted in a crash on eastbound Interstate 40 Thursday night, according to California Highway Patrol.

A semi tractor trailer overturned in the center divider from the eastbound side of I-40 about 3 miles away Hector Road. That’s between the town of Newberry Springs and Ludlow about 8:51pm on May 29, 2025.

It’s reported the driver lost control, went into the center median, went down a small embankment, landed on the passenger side. The semi was hauling about 36,000 lbs. of general good.

San Bernardino County Fire Recuse reported two critically injured patients inside the cab. Sadly, the semi driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. They extricated the passenger that was trapped in the cab of the truck after calling for a medical helicopter to land.

The passenger was airlifted by Mercy Air #66 to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. That person’s condition was not immediately released.

The identity of the semi driver has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
