ESSEX, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Authorities are investigating a solo-vehicle rollover crash that killed one person on eastbound Interstate 40 Sunday morning.

California Highway Patrol officers and San Bernardino County Fire responded to the crash about 5:42am on June 1, 2025. The rollover crash was in center divider the area of eastbound I-40 and about 2 miles before the Essex Road exit, according to CHP traffic log.

The crash caused one person to be ejected from the vehicle. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It is unclear if another victim or victims were in the vehicle and if they were transported to a nearby hospital.

According to the CHP, the crash remains under investigation and it is unknown if weather or wet roadways were a factor. We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary incident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This fatal rollover crash will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Office.
