PHELAN, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi-truck driver escaped major injuries Monday morning when the truck he was driving overturned on Highway 138.
The accident happened just after 8am on July 14, 2025 on Highway 138. According to authorities, the driver of the semi double-bottom dump trailers lost control of his brakes coming down the Cajon Pass on southbound Interstate 15. The driver exit south I-15 onto Hwy 138, went through the intersection, rolled over, taking down a light pole and then caught fire. The semi was hauling gravel, leaving debris scattered in the roadway and on the right shoulder.
The semi was a double-bottom dump truck, meaning it consisted of two trailer beds connected in tandem. The truck was full of gravel, contributing to the considerable momentum when its brakes failed.
The extent of the driver’s injuries was minor; no one else was hurt.
One lane plus the onramp to southbound I-15 was closed down for several hours after the crash for accident cleanup.
No word yet on what led to the crash it looks to be loss of brakes. We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
