PHELAN, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Southern California Edison (SCE) says crews replace multiple utility poles on Highway 138 in Phelan on Monday.
Traffic was delayed has worker were airlifting utility poles by a helicopter across Highway 138 Monday morning and afternoon.
Contractors working for Southern California Edison closed Highway 138 between Highway 2 and Sheep Creek Road to replace utility poles.
Crews were working in steep mountainous terrain. Using a helicopter removing the old power poles and then replacing with new ones.
In a different helicopter a crew were string new wire across the top of the poles.
This is difficult for ground crews, so helicopters are needed to do this part.
California Highway Patrol did multiple traffic breaks as each helicopter passed over the highway.
Caltrans has no planned lane closures for Highway 138 for utility work.
