Coming Soon New Safety Project on Summit Valley Road in Hesperia

HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> San Bernardino County Department of Public Works will be conducting a safety improvement project on Summit Valley Road next week. We want to ensure the community is aware of the schedule and what to expect.

Starting on Monday, March 9 – Thursday, March. 12, 2026.

Roadwork Hours should be 7:30am to 4:30pm* each day. Daytime hours only (No night or weekend work).

The work will take place along a 5 and a half mile stretch of Summit Valley Road, starting from 1.36 miles north of Highway 138 and extending east into the City of Hesperia (see attached map).

Crews will be installing new “traffic delineator tubes” channelizers in the centerline and warning signs in both directions on Summit Valley Road, as well as the re-painting of faded double yellow striping at various segments. Traffic delineator tubes/Channelizers will serve to better delineate sides of the road and direct the flow of traffic, for increased traveling safety to avoid a head-on collisions.

What is a traffic delineator tubes or channelizers? (see picture below)

• Lane Closures: Expect intermittent lane closures with traffic control.

• Traffic Control: Flaggers will be on-site to guide vehicles safely through the work zone.

• Delays: While we do not anticipate full road closures, please plan for minor slowdowns during active work hours. Plan accordingly and expect major delays up to 15+ minutes delay.

• Access: Access to all driveways and properties will be maintained at all times.

• Note: Since Summit Valley Road primarily serves Highway 138 traffic, please be aware of potential overflow traffic in the area due to both projects being active nearby.

PLAN YOUR TRIP Please drive slowly and safely through the work zone to protect our crews. Before you head out, we encourage you to plan ahead as there will be delays.

*Times can subject to change and could go longer or shorter than planned each day.
