BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi-truck fire shut down a stretch of Interstate 15 outside the town of Baker Wednesday morning, causing heavy traffic delays.
Just after 6am., California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to a report of a semi tractor-trailer fire on northbound I-15 just before the Razor Road exit.
The fire was reported on a passenger side tire, then quickly caught the trailer on fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi hauling approximately 45,000 pounds of clothing involved in flames. Crews immediately initiated an aggressive attack on the fire. After knocking down the bulk of the flames, they used equipment and saws to open the side of the trailer, ensuring all remaining materials were fully extinguished.
CHP reportedly assisted with the lane closures and traffic control to provide a safe working area for the cleanup and removal of the semi and trailer.
By 7:48am, the roadway was reopened, though traffic remained narrowed to one lane thought out the afternoon. Over a 9 mile of traffic was backup at one point
No injuries were reported.
