NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> At least one person was killed following a fiery three semi tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 40 Friday evening.
The crash was reported at about 6:53pm on April 17, 2026, on the westbound I-40 Freeway in front of the Desert Oasis Rest Area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Initial reports state at least three semi tractor-trailer trucks crash with two of them caught fire. The two semis were fully engulfed in flames and did spread to the nearby brush on the side of the freeway.
The wreckage blocked all westbound lanes prompted a SigAlert for multiple hours that will last all Saturday morning.
The exact number of vehicles involved in the crash was not immediately known at this time.
At least one person was deceased at the scene. It’s unclear how many others were injured, nor the extent of their injuries.
The incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Barstow Office. CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available. Please check back for updates on this incident.
