CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> > California Highway Patrol say that blinding sunlight and speed may have been the cause of an 8-vehicle chain-reaction pileup on northbound Interstate 15 in Cajon Pass Thursday morning.
CHP say the pileup occurred at around 6:06am, May 21, 2026 about two miles before the Oak Hill Road exit in the fast lane and #2 lane with the initial crash possibly caused by the blinding sun, a disable vehicle, or slow-moving vehicle in one of the traffic lanes.
Quickly, other vehicles collided — about 8 in all. Five more were involved in secondary crashes as traffic started to back up near the scene.
Traffic was stopped for the cleanup and removal of the damage vehicles out of lanes.
No additional information about injuries is unknown at this time.
The factor what lead up to the first collision is under investigation.
We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
