CRESTLINE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi tractor-trailer almost overturned Wednesday morning on a sharp mountain curve on Highway 138, shutting down the highway for much of the day.
The incident began at approximately 8:27am on June 17, 2026 on Highway 138 between Old Mill Road and Pilot Rock Rd. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Traffic Incident Information Page, the semi driver became stuck and about to tip over on the sharp curve of the highway.
CHP reported that a heavy-duty tow truck was needed.
Efforts to clear the road are ongoing, and vehicles are stuck behind the semi, according to Caltrans.
Update the highway was reopen around 4pm.
