CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The Fourth of July weekend is here, a new record of 8.76 million people are expected to travel over the Fourth of July weekend between Southern California, Las Vegas, and the river, according to the Auto Club of Southern California and its way up from last year even with the higher gas prices.
The travel sites are saying Las Vegas is the #1 destinations this 4th of July Weekend so this means heavy traffic on Interstate 15. Check the Pain In The Pass Facebook Group before you go, with up-to-date traffic conditions.
Expect traffic delays on Thursday and on Friday afternoon/evening for northbound Interstate 15. Also, on Sunday and Monday afternoon/evening for southbound I-15. The hot spots of traffic will be in the Cajon Pass, Hesperia/Victorville, Barstow, Baker, and in Primm/Stateline areas.
The Pain In The Pass says, try to travel during off peak hours like early in the morning or late at night.
The 4th is on a Saturday this year.
The worst time to travel is around 2pm to 8pm on these days above.
No freeway lane closures this Holiday weekend on Interstate 15.
If you plan to hit the road this 4th of July Weekend, below are some helpful tips:
- Travel in early morning hours if possible – try to leave before noon Thursday, or Monday.
- Slow down it’s not a race.
- BRING WATER! Also bring snacks and necessary medication.
- Have a full tank of gas before you go.
- Make sure your car is in good running condition. Check all the fluids, tires and tire pressure.
- Bring a charged cell phone (with a car charger).
- Use the restroom before you get on the road – you don’t know where you may get stopped for long periods of time.
- Plan ahead and add extra time before you travel. Have a positive attitude relax and enjoy the ride!
