BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi-truck fire after a collision shut down a stretch of Interstate 15 outside the town of Baker Friday afternoon, causing heavy traffic delays.
Around 3:18pm, California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to a crash with a report of a semi tractor-trailer on fire on northbound I-15 about four miles before the Halloran Springs Road exit.
It’s reported the semi rear-end the back of another semi-truck.
The fire was reported came from the cab of the semi, then quickly caught the trailer on fire too.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi hauling tires involved in flames. Crews immediately initiated an aggressive attack on the fire. After knocking down the bulk of the flames, they used equipment and saws to open the side of the trailer, ensuring all remaining materials were fully extinguished.
CHP reportedly assisted with the lane closures and traffic control to provide a safe working area for the cleanup and removal of the semi and trailer.
Traffic remained narrowed to one lane thought out the afternoon and two lanes were reopened at 6:38pm with the slow lane still blocked. Over 6 miles of traffic was backup at one point.
