Passenger Killed after a Vehicle Careened off of Southbound I-15 in the Cajon Pass Wednesday Afternoon has been ID

CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Office have identified 20-year-old Jheney N. Wallace (Harris) of Victorville as the woman killed in Wednesday’s crash in the Cajon Pass on southbound Interstate 15.

California Highway Patrol said, the crash was reported at approximately 1:52pm on July 15, 2026, off of southbound 15 Freeway at the Kenwood Avenue offramp.

Reported on the CHP Traffic Log reported a black Hyundai Veloster may have lost control driver and went off the right shoulder in a dirt turnout area. The vehicle went down the embankment rolled over multiple times and landed around 100 feet down from the freeway.

First responders from San Bernardino County Fire said, Jhenéy was pronounced deceased at the scene, while one occupant needed to be airlifted out. The other patient was brought up in a stokes basket by our urban search and rescue team, and transferred to waiting ambulance where they also were taken to a local trauma center.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue AR 308 helicopter, were dispatched to the scene of reports of multiple injuries.

“Due to the location and injuries, the helicopter hoist was determined to be the safest extraction method”. That patient was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, further evaluation and treatment.

Jhenéy’s mother, Tamara Wallace said, the two other people in the vehicle were her daughter’s friend and the friend’s mother.

Tamara said her daughter was an athlete who played volleyball and basketball in school. She was playing basketball as a Victor Valley Community College student and aspired to play for the WNBA.
