High-Speed Pursuit of Kidnapped Suspect in a Stolen Vehicle Ends in Crash Sunday Morning on Hwy 247 in Landers

LANDERS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> During a police pursuit of a vehicle headed on Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree, deputies say a kidnapping victim jumped out of the vehicle before ending in a collision Sunday morning.

On Sunday July 26, 2026, at around 6:40am, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies use an automated license plate reader detected a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and White Feather Road. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but they say the driver took off at a high-speed.

The Sheriff’s Department identified the driver was Rodney Frazier-Goodson, a 21-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms. They say Frazier-Goodson drove west on Twentynine Palms Hwy., then north on Old Woman Springs Road/Hwy 247.

During the pursuit, deputies say Frazier-Goodson slowed the vehicle to allow a victim to exit. It is unknown if the victim was injured.

Deputies say Frazier-Goodson continued at high-speeds and drove into opposing lanes of traffic. They say they used an PIT maneuver to end the pursuit, during which Frazier-Goodson lost control of the vehicle and collided with a dirt embankment on Old Woman Springs Road near Boone Road in the town of Landers. Deputies say that Frazier-Goodson was treated at the scene until he was air-lifted by REACH Air Medical Services #43 helicopter to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

Frazier-Goodson was convicted for assault in the stabbing of a teenager back in 2024. He was most recently arrested on suspicion of violating parole on July 20.

Once released from the hospital, Rodney Frazier-Goodson is expected to be booked on suspicion of kidnapping, possession of a stolen vehicle, and evading law enforcement. Other charges are pending.
