ESSEX, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A violent crash between a semi and a SUV left at least one person dead on the Interstate 40 Saturday morning.
The collision happened at about 4:38am by a iPhone crash alert on eastbound I-40 at mile maker 112 about a mile and a half before the Mountain Springs Road exit. The two-vehicle reported in the collision was a semi tractor-trailer and a Chevrolet Suburban SUV.
For unknown reason the driver of the Chevy made contact with the semi-truck that was reported to be overturn blocking a lane.
The first emergency responders to the crash and declared at least one person was dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending next of kin notification.
All eastbound main lanes of I-40 remain closed. Significant delays are expected, and drivers are urged to seek alternate routes.
