VICTORVILLE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Two brush fires erupt in the City of Victorville on Sunday, triggering evacuation warnings and orders for residents near the Mojave River bottom.
The first fire started around 8:49am on Sunday August 30, 2026, near First Street and the Eva Dell Park in the Mojave River bottom. That fire was quickly contained and out, in about two and a half hours and burned about one to two acres.
The second brush fire that erupted Sunday in the Mojave River bottom expanded rapidly in the direction of homes with afternoon gusty winds and prompting mandatory evacuations for the Shady Oasis Estates and Kampground and the the River Ranch Mobile Home Park.
This blaze dubbed the Stoddard Fire was reported at 3:26pm the north side of the river bed near the trailer park according to the Victorville Fire Department. The afternoon winds were pushing the blaze toward the Kampground and the trailer park.
Victorville Fire Department said they sent numerous engines and hand crews from the city and surrounding agencies responding to a mutual aid request were sent to the location, encountering wind-driven flames moving at a moderate rate through thick brush.
At 4:30pm the fire was at 5 acres.
Details about both fires cause were not immediately available.
