WRIGHTWOOD, CA. (Pain In The Pass) Four people were killed and two were airlifted when a car veered off of Highway 2 and crashed early Friday morning.
California Highway Patrol said, the crash was reported about 1:33am September 4, 2026, along Hwy 2 near Flume Canyon Drive and Mountain High Resort, between the towns of Big Pines and Wrightwood.
Investigators say six people were in the 2016 dark gray Hyundai Veloster compact hatchback car that seats four, when the driver veered off the road, rolled down an embankment and crashed into a power pole. The vehicle crashed down about 40 feet off the highway.
Five of the occupants were ejected upon impact but only one survived. That person and a sixth occupant that was in the car were both airlifted by Mercy Air helicopters to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
All six people are reported to be in their 20s and from the Wrightwood area.
Alcohol is likely a contributing factor in this crash,” according to the CHP.
