CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Several traffic incidents were reported Sunday morning and the afternoon as moderate rain passes through Southern California.
One incident happened on the northbound I-15 freeway onramp from Highway 138, where a semi tractor-trailer involved in a crash with a sedan and caught fire just after 5am. No injuries are reported, but the onramp was closed due to Hazmat cleanup.
Also, on northbound I-15 a couple of incidents just after 12pm, including two crashes near the Glen Helen Pkwy exit and potholes in the middle lanes just before the offramp.
Then at 12:10pm, a vehicle went off freeway on southbound I-15 freeway about a mile and a half before Bailey Road in Mountain Pass. They called for multiple medical helicopters to land at the scene or near the scene due to weather.
Multiple vehicles spun out because of the rain.
Just today from midnight to 2pm California Highway Patrol said just on the 15 Freeway had 42 collisions and 13 traffic hazards.
It’s important for motorists to drive slowly, stay patient and create space between other drivers in wet weather.
Months of no rain has accumulated oil, dirt, and dust, on the roadway. So, mixing water with residual oil and grease makes asphalt extremely slippery for drivers.
