NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi tractor-trailer crashed into the center median along the Interstate 40 Freeway in Newberry Springs, forcing the closure of one lane on both sides of the freeway Monday afternoon.
The incident was reported on westbound lanes on I-40 above Newberry Road or about 2 miles after Fort Candy Road exit at about 2:10pm on September 14, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Details about what led up to the collision were limited, but the wreckage was in the center dirt median and crashed into the eastbound side guardrail.
CHP said one lane in both directions would be closed until further notice.
It’s unclear how many other vehicles were involved in the collision and if there were any people transported to the hospital from resulting from the incident.
The semi driver did complain about having a back injury.
CHP reported the trailer was empty and about 50 feet of guardrail was damage.
