SILVERWOOD LAKE, CA. ( Pain In The Pass) >> A small wildfire Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area never had a chance to get large Saturday afternoon.
The Silver Fire was reported around 3:15pm September 26, 2026, in the New Mesa Campground inside Silverwood Lake off of Highway 138 and Cleghorn Road, according to preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol.
Fast responding units from the San Bernardino Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service, CAL FIRE and other Resources had the blaze under control before afternoon winds could drive it into the crowns of large brush and trees and possibly jump the highway.
Fire officials put the Silver Fire at one acre and in patrol status by Saturday night.
Evacuations ordered for Silverwood State Recreation Area will be closed for the rest of the day, officials announced. “The park may reopen on Sunday morning after re-evaluation by firefighters and the park rangers. Escorts or passes are planned for park visitors and campers to renter the park to retrieve their belongings.
It is not clear how the fire was started.
