LA VERNE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A suspect in a stolen vehicle led authorities on a high-speed chase reaching 160+ miles per hour and lasting for hours. The suspect was found hiding in a back house, authorities said.
According to the Los Angeles police, officers responded to a home burglary in the 600 block of N. Sierra Bonita in the Fairfax area of Los Angeles Wednesday morning at 7:38am. A black BMW had been stolen at the location, so officers put out a broadcast. LAPD officers were able to track down the vehicle by using a GPS tracking device. Shortly after they located the stolen car, the suspect led officers on a dangerous high-speed pursuit, reaching speeds up to 160+ mph.
California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit as the suspect crossed over into San Bernardino County on eastbound 210 freeway. The pursuit continued on northbound Interstate 15 freeway and continued up the Cajon Pass, into the Hesperia /Victorville area where the vehicle exited Bear Valley Road and headed back on southbound on the I-15. The suspect continued southbound I-15 down the Cajon Pass and exited on westbound 10 Freeway, and where he clipped a big rig.
The rear bumper of the stolen vehicle was damaged and dangling off of the BMW as the driver continued to attempt to flee. The car exited the 10 freeway at 4th Street and the chase continued on surface streets in the Upland area. The suspect then bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot near 6th and F streets in the city of La Verne.
The suspect was found hiding in a rear house in the area and was taken into custody without incident about 11am, CHP said.
