HIGHLAND, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Firefighters swiftly contained a small brush fire next to Highway 330 Saturday morning.
The fire broke out at 10:53pm June 21, 2025, the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans said the blaze known as the Cook Fire. The fire started near the City Creek area and quickly went uphill and meet the highway.
Firefighters stop the forward rate of spread at 5 acres, with no immediate structure threat. Fire crews said, a number of individuals in an encampment are being evacuated for their safety.
The fire caused the closure of a stretch of Highway northbound and southbound, from Highland Avenue to Running Spring. The roadways have since reopened.
It was reported a homeless person potentially started the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
No injuries have been reported.
