BIG BEAR, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> San Bernardino National Forest Fire crews are schedule to prescribed burn (under a controlled burn) in Big Bear this week.
The San Bernardino National Forest plans to begin prescribed fire operations between December 18 and Dec. 20 in the Big Bear Valley at Highway 38 and Polique Canyon Road areas. North of Big Bear Lake. Firefighters will monitor the prescribed burn during ignition and the following days until it is entirely out.
Crews plan to treat up to 40 acres.

We use prescribed fires to reduce overgrown vegetation and protect local communities, infrastructure, and natural resources from wildfires. Please drive carefully and stay alert, as firefighters may be along the roadsides in the area, ensuring your safety and theirs.
Residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. For more detailed information about air quality, go to AirNow online or download the app. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.
We will evaluate weather conditions in the hours before a burn begins. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled.
