Hot, Humid Weather to bring Chance of Storms this Weekend

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A quick start to the monsoon season. Remnant tropical moisture from former Tropical Storm Boris is expected to surge north into Arizona and a portion of the southern part of California this weekend.

This chance brings an increasing chance of rain showers and thunderstorms across parts of the region. Southern California has a small chance of the weather action. Afternoon/evening thunderstorms for the Colorado River area.

The weather pattern as of Wednesday afternoon the flow of moisture from the former tropical storm in the Gulf of California and a strengthening subtropical ridge over northern Mexico.

This is a good setup to draw the tropical moisture plume that’s pulled up across Mexico, northward into the Desert of Arizona.

The first chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms could develops as early as Friday near the Arizona California border.

The best chance for showers and thunderstorms looks to be this weekend when the deepest tropical moisture and highest instability are expected to be in place. Thunderstorms will likely develop first over the mountains of Arizona, especially near the Colorado River off the I-10 freeway and I-40 freeway.

You can’t rule out a pop-up storm to come over the high desert and the Big Bear area

Make sure you are weather aware and don’t forget that upstream heavy rain can lead to flooding downstream without any rain falling at your location.

Storms could also produce dangerous lightning and outflow-driven dust storms. Another concern is the potential for dry lightning sparking fires in some locations.

The heaviest downpours can have the potential to bring a quick 1+ inches of rain. The risk for localized flash flooding will be moderate, but cannot be ruled out because the ground is dry and in the burn scars areas.

“When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors” If you travel through or on Interstate 15, I-40, expect traffic due to the weather condition that can change quickly. Remember to SLOW DOWN in the rainy weather and or blowing dust.

*The weather pattern can change.
