BARSTOW, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Wildfire season is in full swing, and smoke from Central California and Northern California fires is funneling into the Barstow area/Mojave Desert Saturday morning.
The Rock Fire started off of Highway 395 in the town of Aberdeen south of Big Pines/Bishop in Inyo County. This fire started on Monday afternoon as grow to 11,974 acres as of Friday night. With two new fires started Friday afternoon by lightening close to the Rock Fire. All three large fires are now called the Cinder Complex Fire. One spot fire is over 1,318 acres and the second fire is 744 acres.
These fires are creating smokey and hazy skies as well as moderate to unhealthy air quality across parts of the high and low deserts.
Current smoke forecasts show smoke southeast direction area Saturday afternoon.
If you have respiratory issues or sensitivity to poor air quality it’s best to keep an eye on the air quality, and limit exposure to the outdoors when unhealthy air quality or smoke is present.
Things that can help when you’re out and about with poor air quality is to re-circulate the air in your car, or at home re-circulate the air at your home. Other tips are staying up to date on air quality conditions, avoiding strenuous activities, keeping windows closed, or using an air purifier. Turn off swap coolers.
