CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> California Highway Patrol officers detained a driver suspected of driving at high speeds and traveling the wrong way on Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass late Thursday afternoon.
Multiple people called 911 dispatch for an dark orange Dodge Charger sedan going the wrong way, with the driver heading north in the southbound lanes of I-15 in the area of Kenwood Avenue around 4:38pm on August 6, 2026.
The Dodge continued for about three miles in the center divider at an unknown high speed. Then after passing Cleghorn Road the driver cross over all lanes in the right shoulder on southbound.
A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s helicopter 40K was overhead and calling out the location of the wrong-way driver.
The driver turned around and went through the old weight station and tried to reverse up the southbound onramp from Highway 138.
A CHP unit conducted what they described as a “high-risk” traffic stop and took the driver into custody without further trouble.
No injuries were reported and no vehicles were damaged in the incident.
The driver will get at least on charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Investigators were looking into whether impairment played a role.
