NEEDLES, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Needles Office took enforcement action against a pair of semi-truck drivers in separate stops this week for violating the state’s speed limit for commercial trucks.
The first week of November, 2026, CHP officers performed a traffic stop after observing a commercial vehicle traveling at speeds of 93 mph while traveling along Interstate 40.
On Tuesday night CHP officer stopped a semi-truck exceeding the posted 55 mph speed limit. The suspect was traveling at a staggering 98 mph and was passing other vehicles on the freeway.
Both drivers were cited for speed violation.
We encourage everyone to drive responsibly and adhere to posted speed.
At that speed, a fully loaded semi-truck becomes an enormous danger to everyone on the road. Increased stopping distances, reduced reaction time, and the potential for catastrophic collisions make excessive speed in commercial vehicles especially dangerous.
REMINDER: California law generally limits vehicles transporting property to 55 MPH. That’s not a suggestion — it’s the law!
The CHP Needles Area remains committed to holding dangerous drivers accountable and keeping California’s highways safe.
Big rigs. Big responsibility. ZERO excuses for reckless speeds.
