The tanker was carrying an unknown liquid when the driver noticed one of the tires was on fire on southbound I-15 about 11:10am May 14, 2024. The driver stopped in the slow lane because of no shoulder on the freeway due to construction of the new truck scale at the top of the pass, CHP officer said.

The driver was able to detach the tractor from the trailer to save the tractor cab from catching fire also.

California Highway Patrol were called to block the two right traffic lanes. CHP receive aid from firefighters San Bernardino County Fire Department to quickly extinguish the flames.

It looks like a problem with the rear trailer brakes or a wheel bearing caused the problem to catch fire.

The situation may have been much worse if it had been a gas tanker or the firefighter were not there has quick.

Luckily, there were no injuries.
