PALMDALE, CA (Pain In The Pass) >> Pearlblossom Highway/Hwy 138 between 60th and 70th Street. California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department with help from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were getting calls about a major accident at 7:08am Tuesday morning.

The black Nissan pickup collided head on with a Autozone big rig that was headed northbound on Hwy 138, causing the big rig semi to burst into flames.

Two of the three in the pickup died at the scene. The third person was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the big rig semi is being treated for minor injuries at a hospital and is expected to survive.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to have been a factor in the crash, investigators said.

It was not immediately known why the Nissan pickup ended up on the wrong side of the road. A witness said the pickup truck driver may possibly fell asleep at the wheel.

SIG ALERT was issued at 7:33am on Pearblossom Hwy/Hwy 138 from 4 Points Avenue T to 75th Street. The highway was closed all day due to the accident investigation and expected to open at 9pm.

None of the victims have been identified.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
