ONTARIO, CA (Pain In The Pass) >> A driver of a big rig semi was killed early Wednesday morning after losing control and crashing on the 10 Freeway in Ontario, hitting a power pole and downing power lines in the process.

The big rig semi was headed west on the 10 Freeway when it crashed just after 3:33 am before the Archibald Avenue exit.

According to witnesses, the big rig semi struck the center divider went back across lanes jump the krail then hit the power pole, which then brought power lines down across the entire freeway and some of wires were arcing.

California Highway Patrol said that the driver died at the scene. He was not immediately identified.

A vehicle sustained minor damage when it struck the downed lines, but the driver of that car was uninjured.

A Sig Alert was issues and they shut down both sides of the freeway while it cleared the power lines, traffic was back up for miles this morning.

This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland San Bernardino Office.

CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available.

Update the big rig driver has been ID as Kenny Rene Laguna, age 54, a resident of Arizona, was pronounced dead at the scene by Ontario Fire Department Personnel at 4:02 AM.
