MOUNTAIN COMMUTER ALERT:

About a 13 miles stretch of Highway 330 in the San Bernardino Mountains will be fully closed for 12 days while crews install a new barrier to prevent rocks from falling onto the roadway and endangering drivers.

The closure of Highway 330 which stretches from Highland to just before the mountain community of Running Springs.

Highway 330 will be fully closed at 5am on Monday, September 9 until midnight on Friday, September 20, from Highland Avenue near the 210 Freeway (by the Walmart at the bottom of the hill) to Live Oak Drive near Running Springs. If weather permitting.

Caltrans crews will be installing a barrier along this portion of the highway to help prevent dangerous rock slides.

The barrier includes at 200′ x 100′ metal net that will be anchored onto the slope above the middle passing lanes. Additionally, crews will install a 42″ pipe approximately 25′ below ground within the closure to repair a damaged drainage system.

Highway 18 between Big Bear and Lake and Arrowhead will remain open.

If there is a fire in the mountains area, Highway 330 will be utilized in the event residents need to be evacuated due to a fire.

To avoid delays, please plan ahead and use alternate routes. Highway 38 to/from Mentone and Highway 18 to/from Lucerne will remain open during the closure of Highway 330.

Emergency vehicles will have access to Highway 330, which will also be available if residents need to be evacuated because of a fire.

Expect Delays on the detour during the closure, motorists are encouraged to use Highway 18 to the east and west. Highway 38, which runs through Mentone north into the mountains, can also be used.
