FONTANA, CA (Pain In The Pass) >> A big rig semi trailer caught fire on southbound Interstate 15 Freeway just after Sierra Avenue Tuesday morning. Sending thick black smoke across the north Fontana area.

California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department were getting calls of a vehicle on fire about a half mile after Sierra Avenue at 10:50am April 14, 2020.

CHP and firefighters were on the scene and had to temporarily shut down all southbound lanes due to the high gusty wind and while they worked on getting the trailer extinguished.

CHP issued a SigAlert at 11am for 2 lanes.

At 11:55am the #3 lane was reopen.

The slow lane is still blocked due to the clean up and personnel to off load the trailer. The slow lane is expected to be by 4:30pm.

The driver did escape the vehicle before the trailer became fully engulfed.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The cause of the big rig trailer fire is unknown at this time. There is a report it came from rear axles or the brakes on the trailer.

The trailer was reported to be loaded with cases of cranberry juice.
