NIPTON, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A pedestrian was struck and killed in a motor vehicle collision on southbound Interstate 15 before Nipton Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Log, a call were received at 8:22pm Friday night about a pedestrian being hit on the 15 freeway on April 17, 2020.

The pedestrian was driving and the vehicle that became disabled on the right shoulder of the freeway. The driver exit the vehicle, then was hit in the slow lane on the southbound I-15 just before Nipton Rd. near Mountain Pass or about 15 miles from Stateline.

When CHP and emergency crews arrived on the scene, the pedestrian was found with serious injuries. CPR efforts on scene failed, they pronounced the pedestrian deceased at 9:02pm.

The driver did remain on the scene for questioning, according to the CHP.

CHP officials said that drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in this accident.

Also the driver was not found to be at fault, there is no plan to file charges.

This incident is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call 760-255-5900.

Update the pedestrian has been ID as Lateishia Atkinson, a 32-year-old female resident of Las Vegas
