ONTARIO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Authorities are seeking your help to locate a suspect in the Interstate 15 road-rage shooting in Ontario last Monday.

About 5pm Monday, December 14, 2020, on southbound I-15 just after Jurupa Ave. Abelardo Magaña a 72-year-old man was shot and killed in a reported road-rage incident.

With initial reports indicating that a dark grey Ford F-150 pickup truck had gone off the Interstate and struck a light pole.

Through preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Magana had been shot prior to veering off the Interstate. CHP officials said that Magana was not the intended target of what they believe was a road rage incident. It is believed that the suspect exited his vehicle on the Interstate and was standing outside of his vehicle when he fired his gun, shooting Magaña.

When CHP officers and emergency medical personnel arrived, they rendered aid to Abelardo Magaña but despite lifesaving efforts, he died as a result of his injuries. 

Magaña was returning home from work to his family, including his wife of 53 years, who is battling cancer said CHP Capt. Mario Lucio. Officers believe that there was rush-hour traffic at the time of the incident and there may be other witnesses who have not yet come forward with information or pictures/video that may be able to help locate the gunman.  They are asking witnesses to come forward to report what they witnessed.

At this time it is believed that the suspect was driving a dark-colored Kia SUV. They also know that he was male, with no further description at this time.
