FONTANA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A pickup truck pulling a livestock trailer caught fire after the pickup truck rear-ended a big rig semi trailer on Interstate 15 Saturday evening.
California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Fire Department received calls of a crash. Reported on northbound Interstate 15 at the 210 freeway in Fontana. This happened at about 5:04pm Saturday evening on February 27, 2021.
The vehicles involved in the crash were a white Walmart semi trailer and a white Ford F-350 dually pulling a livestock trailer.
The male driver of the Ford was trapped inside his truck. About ten people were using tools to get the driver out before emergency personnel arrive. Minutes later the truck burst into flames according to the CHP traffic log. The driver was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital to be checked out according reports from the San Bernardino Fire Department.
The livestock trailer was loaded with several cows and a horse. Some of the cows and the horse had various injuries. From reports over a dozen of cattle were deceased at the scene.
A SIG Alert were issued at 6:30pm for the #3 and the #4 lane for recuse and to transport the animals into a new trailer. Lanes were reopened at 9:43pm.
It is unclear what caused the crash. There was stopped traffic in the area due to roadwork.
Update from reports a total of ten cows have die. A horse and the 14 surviving cows sustained various injuries. All the animal were check over by veterinarians at the scene. The male driver had minor injuries.
This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Rancho Cucamonga Office.
CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
