HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> California Highway Patrol was alerted to a single-vehicle rollover involving a pickup truck pulling a travel trailer on northbound Interstate 15 about a mile after the Main Street exit in Hesperia Saturday morning.
California Highway Patrol and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic accident. The crash happened Saturday morning at about 9:50am on May 15, 2021. The initial investigation indicates that a black Chevrolet Avalanche pulling a travel trailer was traveling north on Interstate 15 when for an unknown reason it lost control and rolled into the center guardrail. The truck and the trailer jackknifed. Both were on their sides, blocking the fast lane and part of the #2 lane.
A minor male child was a passenger in the pickup and was reported to be ejected from the truck. Despite life-saving rescue measures, officials said the child was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the incident. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Victorville Office. CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
From witness stated the trailer was fishtailing in the slow lane and was going the speed limit.
Update the boy has been ID, as a 12-year-old male Alexander Jacob Westendorf from Hesperia.
