CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Multiple reports of a new fire in the Cajon Pass and the second brush fire in two days.

It was first reported just before 12:48pm in the area of the Baldy Mesa (Trestles) OHV Staging Area and the train tracks in the Cajon Pass. With other fire close by San Bernardino County Fire Department, CAL FIRE and US Forest Service firefighters were on scene quickly. The fire is quickly grew to about 10 acres with a moderate to rapid rate of spread in grass and chaparral going uphill. With units responded to the incident witnesses stated the fire was caused by sparks from a passing freight train.

Fire officials are calling this fire the Railroad Fire. Check back for update on this fire below.

Update California Highway Patrol has temporary closed Interstate 15 in both direction at 1:07pm from Highway 138 to Oak Hill Road exits.

FULL FREEWAY CLOSURE IN BOTH DIRECTIONS IN THE CAJON PASS from Hwy 138 to Oak Hill Road due to the brush fire.

Update at 2pm I-15 SB closed for another 30min, NB about an hour, per CHP.

2:30pm fire update is now at 25 acres and 0% containment. The forward rate of spread has been stopped, and is now surrounded by fire retardant. The southbound lane of I-15 is now open. Northbound lane remains closed from Highway 138 to Oak Hill.

Update at 3pm Northbound I-15 is back open except the slow lane.

The cause of the brush fire might have been started by a pass train that a spark caught some brush on fire. Still this fire is under investigation at this time.
