HARVARD, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person died after being ejected from a crash on northbound Interstate 15 Thursday morning, according the California Highway Patrol.
CHP and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic crash. The crash was reported at about 5:11am, Thursday October 14, 2021. It was located on northbound Interstate 15 at mile maker 107 around the Midway Rest Area. It was reported to be a two vehicle crash with a 2022 Kia unknown model and a big rig.
In the initial investigation from the CHP, they found that three males were in the Kia when the driver tried to pass a big rig by driving on the right shoulder of the freeway. With in a split second they hit the back of another big rig, that was parked on the shoulder. The impact threw a 24-year-old man who was a back passenger out of the vehicle. He landed partly on the right shoulder and in the slow lane. Sadly, the big rig driver they tried to pass, had no place to go and hit the man, CHP officials said.
Shortly after the man was pronounced deceased at the scene by rescue personnel. The driver and front passenger of the Kia were transported by ambulance to Barstow Community Hospital with minor injuries. The drivers of the big rigs were uninjured.
This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office. Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash. Authorities have not yet released the identification of the man who was killed. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
