CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Northbound Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass was temporarily closed Monday afternoon after a witness saw what looked like a suspicious suitcase.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department Bomb Squad was called at about 12:18pm Monday January 17, 2022. They were called for what appeared to be some sort of suspicious suitcase in the Chevron gas station parking lot off of Wagon Train Road next to Highway 138 and Interstate 15.
Sheriff Department prompted the Chevron gas station and the McDonald to be temporarily evacuated.
The California Highway Patrol temporarily closed northbound Interstate 15 at 1:40pm and had it closed for about 30 minutes. The freeway closure snarled traffic in the area for much of the afternoon and into the evening.
Technicians used a remote-controlled robot to pickup and move the suitcase to a safe spot and determined the suitcase was safe and cleared the scene.
It was not clear as of Monday afternoon exactly who owns the suitcase, according to a detective with the sheriff’s bomb squad team.
