Pinon Hills, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin a roadway widening project on (State Route) Highway 138 in Phelan west of Phelan Road to the Los Angeles county line.
The contract was awarded to the Granite Construction Company for $4.3 million. Crews will widen the roadway to provide a 14-foot center median, wider shoulders and install center median rumble strips. Construction is anticipated to begin February 1, 2022, with surveying and pavement testing. This project is anticipated to end fall of 2023 but is subject to change, due to weather or other construction issues.
Work will be Monday through Thursday from 8am to 4pm and on Friday from 8am to 12pm (noon*). Some weekend work may be needed to assist in expediting the project, or when weather delays prohibit work during the weekdays.
During these work hours, Expect delays has crews will control traffic with a flagging operation. This will provide temporary traffic control through flagging operations to ensure the safety and traffic flow through road construction sites.
*Times can subject to change and could go longer. Lanes and roads may be subject to closure. Please use caution and remember to reduce your speed when approaching and driving through the construction zones. Schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or construction issues.
