VICTORVILLE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> California Highway Patrol took a big rig driver into custody for reckless endangerment after speeding up 90 mph Thursday morning.
This morning February 3, 2022, at approximately 7:55am, multiple motorists called 911 to report a gold big rig pulling a trailer driving recklessly on southbound Interstate 15 near the Stateline. The big rig was reported to be traveling at excessive speeds and passing on the shoulder at times.
While multiple CHP units were handling a stolen big rig call, Victorville officer Ryan Mohatt was able to get in position to intercept the reckless driver. Officer Mohatt noticed the truck tractor as it passed Stoddard Wells Road/Bell Mountain in Apple Valley, in the #1 lane (fast lane) in excess of 80 miles per hour. As officer Mohatt began to overtake the truck it moved to the #3 lane (slow lane) to pass multiple passenger vehicles and almost collide with another big rig. The truck increased its speed to 90 miles per hour traveling onto the asphalt shoulder and onto the dirt shoulder at times. Officer Mohatt was able to stop the truck just before Stoddard Wells Rd in Victorville.
The truck driver was taken into custody for reckless driving.
Inland Division Commercial Mobile Road Enforcement officer Ralph Garcia completed an inspection of the big rig and trailer. This resulted in the trailer being placed out of service for a tire that was completely flat and falling off the rim.
CHP reported the driver was being placed out of service (once released from jail) for not having a log book and for reckless driving. This was a disaster that was prevented thanks to the motorists who called 911 and the officers determination to keep other motorists safe and stop this driver that had no regard for others safety.
