HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> California Highway Patrol officials said they believe illegal race is behind a Friday morning crash on Interstate 15 Freeway that left a truck driver hurt in the city of Hesperia.
California Highway Patrol and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic collision. The crash was reported at about 8:30am, Friday March 11, 2022. The traffic collision location was on northbound Interstate 15 just after Joshua Street on ramp.
CHP believes the driver of the sliver Infiniti G35 sedan and a possible blue Subaru were racing. Both traveling over 100 mph when the sliver Infiniti driver attempted to pass a slower-moving vehicle, and lost control. The Infiniti then drove into the path of an empty red Athens waste/recycling collection big rig.
The impact caused the big rig to lose control, drive off the interstate, hitting the ditch and landing upright onto Mariposa Road. The big rig was blocking Mariposa for hours as they cleaned up the hazmat spill of motor and transmission oil on the roadway.
The male driver of Infiniti also lost control went off the right shoulder of the interstate and hit the ditch. The driver of the Infiniti was not injured. The big rig driver reported to be a male was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time. CHP is investigating whether street racing played a factor in the crash. The other driver believed to be street racing got away.
