CAJON PASS, CA, (Pain In The Pass) >> A tailpipe muffler sparked the roadside brush, igniting the blaze in the Cajon Pass.
These spot fires was reported at about 8:06pm Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Located on northbound Interstate 15 about a mile and a half after the Kenwood Avenue exit. US Forest Service, and San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters were quickly on scene. At 8:30pm the fires had been stopped and about out. Firelighters said about 3 spot fires with one 5×5 size, one at 10×30, and one at 3×10.
Firefighters will remain in the area for mop-up operations for about a hour or so to make sure no hot spots flare up. CHP had the slow lane closed during the fire fight. The cause of the fire is under investigation and it was reported a car tailpipe was dragging prior to the fires ignited. The vehicle did stop and remained on the scene and was cooperating with CHP officers.
