HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Firefighters made quick work of a small brush fire that broke out on Highway 173 early Friday morning, this is the second such fire to break out near the same area in a week.
The Mojave Incident fire was reported at about 10:25am, on Friday, June 10, 2022 on Highway 173 just south of Mojave River Forks Park and Campground in Hesperia.
San Bernardino County Fire with help from CAL Fire and San Bernardino Forest Service firefighters were quickly on scene and called for more support. Firefighters were reporting multiple spot fires next to the highway
The winds were gusting at about 10 to 20 mph in heavy brush fanning the flames. Three helicopters and two airtankers were called to the scene to do some drops to help stop the fire.
No Structures were threatened during the fire fight, just the campground was evacuated and Highway 173 was closed for hours.
At 11:30am firefighters were reporting the forward rate of spread (ROS) was stopped totaling about 10 acres burned.
San Bernardino County Sheriff deputy said the spot fires may have been started by a gray pickup truck pulling a single Sea-Doo that had a flat tire on the trailer near the area of the fire.
