PHELAN, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A person was killed and another was seriously injured Saturday night after a head-on crash on Highway 138 in the town of Phelan.
The crash was reported about 10pm on Saturday August 13, 2022. The location of the head-on collision was on Highway 138 at Gramacy Avenue about a mile south from Highway 2 (on the Wrightwood/Phelan side of Hwy 138). At this time the CHP traffic log don’t give a description of both vehicles.
Despite life-saving rescue measures, firefighters and CHP officials said that one person was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, authorities have not released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
One person in the other vehicle sustained serious injuries. According to the firefighters, the patient was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
For reasons unknown, one of the vehicles crossed into oncoming lanes and collided head-on with the other vehicle. One eastbound lane was closed for several hours as officers investigated the deadly crash.
The incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office. CHP said additional information will be updated as it becomes available. Details were limited at this time.
