CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A brush fire that erupted near Interstate 15 Wednesday afternoon is holding at 90 acres, according to San Bernardino County Fire.
The fire dubbed the Bronco Fire was reported at about 12:44pm Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Located on northbound Interstate 15 about a mile after Kenwood Avenue. US Forest Service, CAL Fire, and San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters were quickly on scene. The fire had consumed about 20 acres. At one point the fire could have potential for 300+ acres.
The winds were gusting about 10 mph in medium brush. Five helicopters and five airtankers were called to the scene to do some drops.
Crews were able to stop forward progress at roughly 1:50pm.
At 4pm the fire was updated at 90 acres burned.
Firefighters will be remain in the area for mop-up operations for serval hours so to make sure no hot spots flare up. California Highway Patrol had three northbound Interstate 15 lanes closed during the fire fight. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
UPDATE on Thursday at 9:30am the Bronco Fire is holding at 99 acres with 90% containment. Fire crews are conducting mop up to keep fire in current perimeter.
