VICTORVILLE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Police pursue a white Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a stolen U-Haul trailer going south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 Wednesday morning. The suspect was eventually arrested on the on-ramp of E Street.
The driver, identified as Rick Dixon, 61-year-old resident of North Fork, CA was arrested after leading law enforcement on a dangerous high-speed pursuit while driving the wrong way on the northbound I-15 freeway, officials said.
On 7:09am Wednesday, October 19, 2022, Barstow Police Department attempted to contact the suspect, of a white Dodge Ram pickup truck attached to a stolen U-Haul trailer. The suspect fled and a pursuit ensued through city streets in Barstow.
During the pursuit, Dixon disconnected the U-Haul trailer and continued to evade police officers. California Highway Patrol responded and assumed the pursuit when Dixon drove erratically driving the wrong way in the northbound I-15 lanes. At one point he drove over 100 mph on the freeway causing a dangerous situation for the other motorists.
The suspect exited the freeway and drove on Quarry Road where CHP officers deployed spike strips. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department’s Specialized Enforcement Division assisted CHP with apprehending the suspect. Deputies fired two shots at the engine block of the vehicle in an attempt to disable it. The vehicle became disabled shortly after when Dixon collided with a curb at the I-15 E Street on-ramp. Dixon was taken into custody without further incident. The Specialized Investigations Division has assumed the investigation.
Dixon was arrested and booked in at the High Desert Detention Center where he remains on $100,000 bail. His charged with Evading Police: Disregard for Safety, Evading Police: Wrong Way Driver, and suspicion of trailer theft.
